It seems yet again deviantArt has pulled a swifty on us all, the new premium rates are exorbitant and are seemingly designed to exclude those who could have paid monthly but will now have to find a huge hit of money every three months, which puts people like me out of any contention of ever going 'Core'
I am now concerned about what may follow, as this seems to be a way to create a stratified system; will the next step be that those who do not have a 'Core' account are excluded from seeing 'Core' content? Will those without a 'Core' account have to have more and more advertising limits placed on them? will non-'Core' accounts lose Journals and Group spaces?
What worth can any of us put to anything said by anyone running dA?
Over the past year deviantArt has gone from an egalitarian art community (I stopped paying for my premium membership nine months ago after the trend towards the cloning of Facebook began and my criticisms were met with vile hostility) towards an increasingly totalitarian commercial entity. And while there is a petition on change.org we know from experience that dA won't give a flying fuck about it.

Stuff that's happened

Hej,
I effed up, and I am sorry.
The last six months have been a bad time in my head, there have been a few wonderful spots, but too many very dark spots. Namely I have been unable to think rationally and be able to make decisions for the group I am in, and other things.
This has hurt people that I care deeply for and in the last fortnight I made a last decision.
I stopped taking Topiramate. Topiramate is a migraine reliever, but its side effects include some very nasty things, one of which is that the ability to think straight can be impaired, and I cannot not think anymore.
I do not know if this is the right choice, but I need to have a clearer head and be able to do things again, and the last fortnight things have felt clearer.

Why I am leaving

I feel betrayed by deviantArt
It's that simple
I came here five years ago to see great art, and to maybe contribute a little, and to get away from the constant silliness of Facebook.
Since coming here I have met brilliant people and made some great friendships and seen art that has blown my mind.
I felt I could use some of what little money I have to support such a great site.
But the last month's changes are too much, I cannot stay on a site that has become a clone of the biggest Troll-fest on the internet, the very site I came here to get away from, and I am sitting here feeling desperately sad.
In the coming days I will be deleting all my galleries, and groups, as I cannot in good conscience leave them here orphaned and I will sever my ties to this site.
I cannot support or continue to support this, and I see only bad things coming now that they have chosen this path.
For those staying I wish you good luck, and fair weather on your journeys.
